Terry Godar, CFI / CFII
Terry Godar

Terry Godar, a Cumberland Valley Aviation flight instructor. He earned his CFI rating in 1983 and has maintained it since then. He was an active, part time instructor, for many years.   Unfortunately, his engineering career got in the way and limited his instructional activity.  He recently took an early retirement to allow more time for aviation, his first love.  The first thing he did after retiring was to earn his CFII rating.  Terry is rated in both single engine land and single engine sea planes. He is also rated in tailwheel aircraft.

Terry is an effective, highly motivated instructor who has seen several of his students move on to careers in aviation.  Terry was a Mission Pilot, Instructor and Check Pilot for Civil Air Patrol Squadron 302, located at the Capital City Airport.  He ferried aircraft throughout the United States for Piper Aircraft and once flew from St. Maartens Island to Philadelphia.

He has owned and flown his Cessna 172 for almost 30 years, traveling over the eastern two-thirds of the United States with it.  Terry is a volunteer pilot with Angel Flight, an organization of pilots who donate their time and aircraft to help financially needy patients with free medical air transportation.

Welcome to Flying where the sky is truly the limit!

Today there are thousands of people, just like you, learning to fly. They come from all walks of life and have a variety of reasons for wanting to be a pilot. Some fly to expand business opportunities. Others to explore careers in the aviation industry. Some are looking for an activity they can share with family and friends.  And, some just for personal fun and satisfaction. Whatever your reason, learning to fly is a lot easier than you might think.

Start flying right away

You can start your flight instruction right away.  You will be studying the regulations, principles of flight, navigation and other subjects to prepare for an FAA knowledge exam.  At the same time you will be flying with your flight instructor where you learn and demonstrate your skills as a pilot.

Our pilot training program will provide insights that makes flying simple, safe and fun. Learn to fly in an environment where communicating with air traffic control becomes second nature.

During this time you will need to pass a simple medical exam to insure you can perform the duties of a “pilot in command”.   Finally, a check ride with FAA examiner leads to your private pilot certificate.

Flying opens a whole new world to enjoy

Traveling around the country as your own pilot gives you the opportunity to visit many places in one day or a weekend. It frees more of your time for business or pleasure. Piloting your own plane also makes the commute fun! No traffic (as in a car), no hassles (as a commercial flight).  With flying, it is not only faster, the scenery is usually breathtaking.

What will I learn?

Every single time you fly is a unique experience. You will learn about navigation, weather and aerodynamics. You will become proficient with traffic patterns and communications with air traffic control and other aircraft. You will be taught pre-flight inspections, ground operations and the mechanical aspects of a general aviation aircraft.

So what are you waiting for?

At Cumberland Valley Aviation, our goal is to prepare you for the exciting experience of learning to fly. For business or pleasure, our professional staff will take you from that first flight to your goal of gaining your private pilot license.
